    Founded in 1984 by David and Helen Paterson, Chateau Pato remains one of the Hunter Valley's finest small producers. The vineyard, planted to Shiraz, was established in 1981. David died in 1993, and the responsibility of the vineyard and winemaking fell onto the considerable shoulders of their son, Nick Paterson.  Nick Paterson is one of the Hunter Valley's most respected winemakers.

    This fruit is sourced from the Maluna Vineyard planted 1968, approx 4 km south of Ch Pato. Soils are dark brown loams over lighter clays with decayed limestone. 250 metre altitude. High percentage of whole bunch used during fermentation - this enhances elegance, varietal expression and spice/pepper. 14 months maturation in 300 and 500 litre barrels before bottling in June 2019.
