Chateau Pato Chardonnay 2018
Founded in 1984 by David and Helen Paterson, Chateau Pato remains one of the Hunter Valley's finest small producers. The vineyard, planted to Shiraz, was established in 1981. David died in 1993, and the responsibility of the vineyard and winemaking fell onto the considerable shoulders of their son, Nick Paterson. Nick Paterson is one of the Hunter Valley's most respected winemakers.
Derived from 2 sites. Chateau Pato - deep black loam over clay planted 1990 and a small site 4 km north which is sand/gravel over yellow clay planted early 1980’s. Handpicked early to avoid over-ripe fruit & to retain natural acidity, basket pressed directly to 500 litre barrels for fermentation. 40% new oak, 7 months on gross ferment lees, no malo-lactic ferment. Bottled October 2018.
